OBTAINING A ROLLER CERTIFICATE
Step 1.
Ask your employer to contact the Registered Training Organisation - Via ETAQ to establish your formal training requirements and implement a relevant training plan. Formal training is defined as "training in the theoretical knowledge for the safe operation of a roller".
Step 2.
Once your formal training is completed and you have been allocated a relevant training plan, your employer will allocate a supervisor to mentor or guide you through your in-formal learning, commonly referred to as on-the-job training. Within the unit of competence for a roller, there is a suggested amount of time for the on-the-job training known as "nominal hours". As a trainee in this license class, your goal should be to show competence to your supervisor in the areas laid out in your training plan. The time it takes you to show competence will vary depending upon your life experience and level of aptitude. As you progress through the tasks in the training plan, you must keep a written record of informal learning this is commonly referred to as a logbook. Your ETAQ training plan is issued with a logbook at the back.
Step 3.
Once you have shown competence in the entire task list laid out in your training plan and have recorded all the required activities into your logbook, you are then eligible for assessment. A time will need to be arranged for an accredited assessor to come to your site. Before an assessment can occur you must have 100 points of identification available on the day. The assessment could take up to 4 hours to complete and resources will need to be available. ie: Access to a roller and an area on which to operate.
Step 4.
On successful completion of your Roller assessment you will be given an assessment summary form (AS-2). This will act as your temporary license for a period of 14 days. Once you receive your nationally recognised "Statement of Attainment" in the operation of a roller, this will become your new temporary license for a period of 60 days. In this time you should receive your official license from Queensland Workplace Health and Safety.
NOTE: You will not need to present yourself to an Australian post office for this license class. ETAQ and the RTO will process all the required paperwork directly to Queensland Workplace Health and Safety.
